Can a high‑energy breed be happy in a flat?
Often yes, if the enrichment is there – what settles a dog is the quality of the day rather than the square footage. Some working breeds are genuinely hard work anywhere, flat or house.
Mine loses interest in puzzles immediately.
Rotate them. The same puzzle gets solved from memory by the third go. Two or three in circulation, swapped weekly, with the difficulty raised, keeps them working.
The neighbours have complained. What's quiet?
Scent work, puzzles, lick mats and training make no noise at all. Anything involving running or jumping is best kept for outside if you're not on the ground floor.
How much does my breed actually need?
It varies a lot by breed and age, and the plan works out the gap between what yours needs and what it's getting. Puppies need short frequent sessions rather than long ones.
Will settle training work on a hyper dog?
Settling is a learned skill rather than a temperament, so yes – but it takes weeks of daily repetition, not days. The predictable evening sequence does most of the work.
