Questions
Everything you need to know.
Bread really shouldn't go in the fridge?
Correct – cold speeds up the staling process rather than slowing it. Keep it on the counter for a couple of days, then freeze what's left and toast it straight from frozen.
Is the water‑displacement trick as good as a vacuum sealer?
For everyday storage, near enough. A sealer wins for bulk buying and long freezing, but pushing the air out with water costs nothing and takes seconds.
Why shouldn't I wash raw meat?
Rinsing sprays bacteria around the sink and worktop without removing anything from the meat. Cooking to the right internal temperature is what makes it safe.
How do I know when leftovers have gone?
Most keep three to four days, though cooked rice and seafood need eating sooner. Label everything with the date, and discard anything that smells or looks off rather than tasting it.
Does freezing ruin the food?
Nutritionally it holds up very well. Texture is the real limit – anything with high water content turns soft once thawed, and the protocol says which foods those are.
