The jam is folding, not storage.

Because storage isn't one of the stages. Laundry is sorting, washing, drying, folding and returning — most rooms provide for washing and drying and nothing else, so the room fails wherever a stage has no place to happen. The commonest single fault is the absence of any surface to fold on, which is why folded washing piles on the machines and gets moved rather than put away. It doesn't need to be large, only permanent.

That's the return step failing, and it isn't laziness — there's no defined moment or route for putting things away, and no amount of storage in the laundry room helps because the destination is elsewhere in the house. The fix is sorting into per-person baskets at the moment of folding rather than into one heap: a per-person basket has an obvious destination, while a mixed pile requires a decision that keeps getting deferred.

A load of wet washing releases a large amount of water into the air, and drying it in an unventilated room reliably produces condensation and then mould — which is a health issue rather than a decorating one. Ventilate while drying rather than shutting the door on it: an extractor, an open window, or a dehumidifier where there's no other option. And a vented dryer has to exhaust outside; venting it into the room is a serious damp problem however convenient it looks.

Lint. Its accumulation is a documented cause of domestic fires, so the filter wants clearing every load and the vent hose or condenser unit cleaning periodically as the manual says — and a hose that's crushed, kinked or over-long reduces airflow and raises the risk. A small lidded bin beside the machine makes it take no decision. Worth checking the washer sits level too, and never stack machines without a proper stacking kit.

Most of what matters here doesn't need fixings. A board across the machines gives you the folding surface; tension rods, over-door hooks and narrow freestanding units cover the rest; and the sorting-at-fold change costs nothing at all. If you do use adhesive fixings, rate them well above the weight and test on a small area first.
