The Problem
There are thousands of courses — most are a waste of money.
😵
Too many choices, too little signal

Coursera, Udemy, edX, LinkedIn Learning, Skillshare — hundreds of thousands of courses, ratings that are easy to game, and nothing on the sales page that tells you whether anyone got hired off the back of it.

💸
You've already wasted money on one that didn't help

You bought a course, watched four videos, and nothing changed. The problem usually wasn't the course — it was that nobody worked out beforehand whether it was the right skill, or when you'd study it.

❓
You don't know which skills actually pay

Data science, project management, UX, AI — each has a loud lobby saying it's the answer. Without a way to reason about your own field and your own gap, you're picking from marketing.

📜
Certificates and skills aren't the same thing

Some credentials open doors in some fields. Plenty do nothing at all. The difference is checkable in ten minutes of job postings, but almost nobody checks before paying.

Questions
Everything you need to know.
How does the AI know which courses are worth it?
It reasons from general knowledge of the major platforms, what credentials tend to carry weight in different fields, and how hiring in your industry works. What it doesn't have is a live feed of catalogues, prices, or graduate outcomes — so it flags what it's unsure about and gives you a specific list of things to verify before paying. That verification step is part of the process, not an afterthought.
Will a course actually get me a raise?
It might create the opportunity; it can't guarantee the outcome. Whether a raise follows depends on your market, your employer, and what you do with the skill afterwards. The calculator is built as a scenario tool — you enter the raise you think is realistic and it shows how the maths works out — rather than as a prediction of what you'll earn.
Does this work for any industry?
Broadly yes — tech, marketing, finance, project management, data, product, sales, healthcare, design. The advice adapts to your role, and where credentials matter less in a field, it says so rather than recommending one anyway.
What if I don't know what skill to learn?
That's the most common starting point. The first step works on which gap is actually limiting your pay, and will tell you plainly if the answer is experience, visibility, or a job change rather than a course.
What if my employer will pay for it?
Then the maths changes completely, and it's worth asking — plenty of tuition reimbursement budgets go unused every year. There's guidance on what to ask HR for, how to frame it, and when in the process to raise it.
I never finish online courses. Will this be different?
Only if you use the completion plan, which is the part most tools skip. It builds a weekly schedule you book before paying, names the point where people typically drop out, and tells you what to do when you fall two weeks behind — because you probably will.
