The Problem
Some things suit you and you can't say why.
🤔
You know it's not the cut, but you can't name it

Two tops, same shape, same size — one gets compliments and the other makes you look tired. Without language for it, you can't repeat the good one.

🛒
A whole shop is too many choices

The useful thing a palette does isn't telling you what's forbidden. It's cutting three hundred options down to thirty so you can actually decide.

📱
Online quizzes stop at 'warm' or 'cool'

Which is too blunt to shop with. What's actually useful is depth, mutedness and contrast — the parts nobody explains.

💸
In-person analysis runs $200–500

It's genuinely better — someone drapes fabric against your face in real light. It's also a lot for something you might want to try first.

Questions
Everything you need to know.
Is colour analysis actually real?
It's a styling framework rather than a science, and the toolkit says so upfront instead of burying it. There's no objective test for a season, the twelve-season system is one of several schemes that disagree, and two professional analysts will often give the same person different answers. What it genuinely does is narrow an overwhelming number of choices into a workable shortlist and give you language for what you'd half-noticed — which is useful, and worth being honest about.
Is this as accurate as an in-person analysis?
No, and it doesn't claim to be. A professional holds real fabric against your face in real light; this works from a written description, which is meaningfully weaker. Where your answers point in different directions it gives you the two most likely seasons rather than forcing one, and it tells you how to test the result in a mirror yourself.
The vein and jewellery tests give me different answers.
That's extremely common and it's treated as information rather than as failure. Those tests are rough indicators affected by lighting, tanning and age, and they routinely contradict each other. Doing it by a window with no makeup helps; getting two candidate seasons and testing both against your face helps more.
Can I still wear black if it's not in my palette?
Yes. Wear it away from the face, break it with a scarf in a shade that suits you, or simply wear it because you like it. The card ends with that instruction deliberately — people end up avoiding colours they love because a chart told them to, which is the opposite of the point.
Will it recommend specific makeup products?
No. Shade ranges differ by market, formulations and names change constantly, and a shade recommended blind is worse than no recommendation. You get the undertone to look for and the colour families that tend to work, plus the instruction to test foundation on the jaw in daylight and wear it a few hours, since it oxidises.
Does my palette change if I dye my hair or get a tan?
Yes, and it's worth redoing then. Hair colour is one of the three inputs, so a substantial change shifts the result — as does greying, and to a lesser extent a tan. A palette isn't fixed for life, which is why there's a reminder to revisit it.
