The Problem
You have a kit for the family and nothing for the animals.
💊
Medication left behind

Daily tablets live in the kitchen and are the first thing forgotten at 2am.

📄
No paperwork

Shelters and pet‑friendly hotels ask for vaccination records you can't reach.

🐱
The cat won't be caught

The carrier is buried and the cat is under the bed while the clock runs.

🥫
Nothing measured

Food, water and litter get grabbed by guess, and it's never the right amount.

Questions
Everything you need to know.
Will emergency shelters take pets?
It varies by country and by shelter, so check your local arrangements now rather than at the time. Have backups either way – pet‑friendly hotels, boarding, or family further away.
How do I stop the food going off?
Keep it sealed and set a reminder twice a year to swap it out, feeding the older bag to your pet. Rotate the water at the same time.
My cat hides whenever the carrier appears.
Leave it out permanently with bedding inside so it stops being a signal. In a hurry, wrapping a cat gently in a towel is usually faster and calmer than chasing one.
Do I need this if I'm not in a disaster area?
A fire, a leak or a few days without power are the more common reasons people leave home suddenly. The bag sits untouched until one of those happens.
I have several animals. One kit or more?
One bag for shared supplies works, with medication and papers in separate labelled envelopes per animal. Each cat needs its own carrier regardless.
