How can a cat be in pain without me seeing it?
Because the signs are small: squinted eyes, less grooming, hiding more, no longer jumping to a favourite spot, snapping when touched. Obvious signs usually mean it's been going on for some time.
Can I give something from my own medicine cabinet?
No – several common human painkillers are toxic to cats and dogs, and small amounts can be enough. Anything for pain has to come from your vet.
My old dog has just slowed down. Is that just age?
