The Problem
It's not just the cold. It's the dark.
🌙
Dark by 4pm. Dark when you wake up. The sun shows up for 6 hours and hides behind clouds for 5 of them.

In northern latitudes, winter daylight drops to 8–9 hours, and much of that is overcast.

😴
You sleep 10 hours and still feel exhausted. You crave carbs at 3pm. Your motivation evaporates in November and doesn't return until March.

These are hallmarks of seasonal affective disorder.

⚪
Your apartment is white walls, overhead lighting, and gray everything. The inside matches the outside. Your brain has no visual escape.

When the sky is gray, the trees are bare, and the streets are wet: the visual world is monochrome.

💡
You've heard of SAD lamps. You maybe bought one. It's in the closet. Because nobody told you where to put it, when to use it, or how.

Light therapy is the most evidence-based environmental intervention for SAD.

What You Get
Not 'just get more light.' A full winter-proof system.

Tell us about your winter
How dark it gets, how it affects you, what your home looks like in winter, your light therapy experience, and your budget. Each answer shapes the light protocol, the color plan, and the daily routine.

AI builds the winter-prep plan
Our wellness-design engine assesses your light exposure gap, designs the therapy lamp placement, selects warm color accents for your space, builds the atmosphere layers, and writes a morning-to-evening routine anchored to circadian science.

Set up the SAD lamp this week
Place it at your breakfast spot. 20–30 minutes each morning. Most people feel a difference within a week. Then add the evening warmth transition: candles, warm light, stove simmer. The home becomes the counterweight to the darkness outside.

Questions
Everything you need to know.
Does a SAD lamp really work?
Clinical studies show bright-light therapy (10,000 lux for 20–30 minutes each morning) improves SAD symptoms in 50–80% of users, with effects typically noticeable within 3–7 days of consistent use. It's the most-studied environmental treatment for seasonal affective disorder. The key factors: brightness (10,000 lux, not a regular bright bulb), timing (morning, within 1 hour of waking), consistency (daily throughout the dark months), and duration (20–30 minutes per session).
Is a 'daylight' bulb the same as light therapy?
No. A 5000K 'daylight' bulb produces light at a cool color temperature but typically only outputs 300–800 lux at normal distances. Light therapy requires 10,000 lux at the recommended sitting distance (16–24 inches). That's 12–30x brighter than a standard daylight bulb. Daylight bulbs are useful for SUPPLEMENTING room brightness during the day, but they are not a replacement for a dedicated 10,000-lux therapy lamp.
Can I use the SAD lamp in the evening?
No. Using a 10,000-lux lamp in the evening suppresses melatonin production, delaying sleep onset and disrupting the circadian rhythm you're trying to stabilize. The clinical protocol is MORNING ONLY: within 1 hour of waking, for 20–30 minutes. After 4pm, switch to warm 2700K lighting. The morning bright and the evening warm create the contrast your brain needs to distinguish day from night during the short winter days.
Will warm-toned pillows really help with seasonal depression?
Color alone doesn't treat SAD. But the COMBINATION of light therapy + warm visual environment + structured routine creates a comprehensive support system. The color intervention targets the psychological weight of monochrome gray: when every visual input (sky, streets, trees, AND your home) is gray, the brain has no contrast. Warm accents inside create a deliberate visual break that signals comfort and safety. It's a supporting intervention, not a primary treatment.
I think I might have SAD. Should I see a doctor?
If your symptoms are moderate to severe (significantly affecting work, relationships, daily function, or lasting most of the day for weeks), yes — please consult a healthcare provider. SAD is a clinical condition that may benefit from professional treatment including therapy, medication, or a combination. The home-prep plan is designed to COMPLEMENT professional care, not replace it. Light therapy, warm environments, and structured routines are powerful supports, but they work best alongside professional guidance when symptoms are significant.
