The Problem
You know you need to say something — but you don't know HOW.
😶
69% of managers avoid giving feedback because they fear conflict

You let the problem slide for weeks, hoping it fixes itself. It doesn't. It gets worse. And now the conversation is even harder.

💥
When you finally speak up, it comes out wrong — too harsh or too vague

Without a script, you either sugarcoat it so much they don't hear the message, or you blurt it out and create the exact conflict you feared.

🛡️
They get defensive and suddenly YOU'RE the problem

You give feedback. They deny, cry, blame someone else, or go silent. Now you feel guilty and the original issue is buried. Every single time.

😤
Silence doesn't fix anything — it just breeds resentment

Every time you say nothing, the frustration builds. Eventually you either explode, disengage, or start job searching — all because of one conversation you didn't have.

Questions
Everything you need to know.
What if I need to give feedback to my BOSS, not a peer?
The Feedback-to-Boss prompt is designed specifically for upward feedback — the riskiest kind. It reframes your feedback as a request ('I need your help with...') instead of a complaint ('You're doing it wrong'). It also does a risk/reward assessment and offers alternative strategies if direct feedback is too dangerous.
What if they cry or get angry during the conversation?
The Defensiveness Playbook covers 5 reactions: denial, blame-shifting, tears, anger, and silent treatment. Each has a specific response script. For tears: 'I can see this is emotional — that tells me you care. Let's take a minute, then continue.' For anger: 'I hear that this is frustrating. My goal isn't to attack — it's to solve this together.'
Should I give feedback in person or in writing?
Both have advantages. In person is better for relationship preservation and nuance. In writing is better for documentation, non-native English speakers, and situations where you freeze in the moment. The toolkit gives you both versions. Use verbal first, then send a written summary to confirm what was agreed.
What if I give the feedback and nothing changes?
The Follow-Up Framework handles this. Check in at 1 week. If no change at 2 weeks, document the pattern. If still no change, the Escalation Script helps you bring it to management or HR — framed as a business problem, not a personal complaint, with evidence already prepared.
Can I use this for positive feedback too?
The toolkit focuses on difficult feedback because that's where people get stuck. But the SBI format works beautifully for praise too: 'In yesterday's meeting [Situation], when you presented the data so clearly [Behavior], the client signed on the spot [Impact].' The framework is universal.
